Who is The Dutch Monk: Swami Purnachaitanya?
Born and raised in the Netherlands, Swami Purnachaitanya had a keen interest in the spiritual traditions, techniques and philosophies of the East from an early age.
His special journey began more than 20 years ago when he met his spiritual teacher, the world-famous humanitarian and spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, during a lecture in Amsterdam more than 20 years ago. After his studies, Swami expressed his desire to his preceptor to devote his life to serving the world and helping as many people as possible. He then left for India to follow his teacher.
In recognition of his high state of consciousness and dedication to dedicate his life to serving others, he received the title of Swami, or monk, at the age of 27. The word Swami means 'one who is established in the Self', and Purnachaitanya, the name given to him by his master, means 'he whose consciousness has fully blossomed'.
Since then, Swami Purnachaitanya has traveled extensively throughout Asia, Africa and Europe, leading Art of Living programs in more than 30 countries, for audiences as varied as heads of state, celebrities, prisoners, business leaders and humble villagers. Through his bestselling book ‘Looking Inward’, various lectures, programs, mantras & podcasts, he has already made a positive change in the lives of hundreds of thousands of people around the world.
After years of studying and practicing meditation, mantras, yoga and the ancient wisdom of the Vedic tradition, Swami Purnachaitanya has become a unique bridge between the East and the West. As a monk, he leads a life of simplicity and dedication, sharing his valuable knowledge and insights to help people lead happy, healthy, successful and fulfilling lives.
